The Uzbek people suffered a great loss. The First President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov has passed away on 2 September 2016
In the memory of Uzbekistan Christians, Islam Karimov will remain the President, during whose leadership Uzbek citizens acquired constitutional right to confess their religion legally. At the time of his leadership, the Bible Society of Uzbekistan was established, allowing Uzbekistan citizens to receive and study Bible without obstacles. In the recent years, the Bible Society of Uzbekistan has received support from the Government of Uzbekistan. In the current year of 2016, with participation of the Bible Society of Uzbekistan and support from the United Bible Societies, a translation of the full Bible in Uzbek language was completed by a partner organisation. All of this was possible due to the wise leadership of President Karimov.
United Bible Societies express their sincere condolences to the people of Uzbekistan and respect and gratitude to the memory of the First President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov.
